strangely enough, when dedenne was revealed for the kalos games, i didn't think all that much of it. sure, i thought it was cute - but i went years without even considering it my favourite member of pikachu's extended family.

all of that changed when it was added to pokemon sleep prior to the first run of the raikou event.

i don't know what happened to me, but i suddenly woke up to dedenne's extreme cuteness and i have never gone back since. if i so much as see a picture of a dedenne now, i feel like i need to put it into an album. (watching the xy anime is particularly challenging, as i literally end up taking screenshots of every dedenne frame. help.) i feel an urge to show off this little electric hamster as if it's one of my very own children. i can say, without a doubt, that i would have one on my team if pokemon existed in reality.

anyway, during that pokemon sleep event, i was desperate to catch my own dedenne... and i knew true despair when the first encounter i had with one ended with it being too full for me to fully befriend it with pokebiscuits. the dedeclan had mercy on me, however, as my second dedenne encountered (and first one ever befriended) was none other than this little lad.

this dedenne has literally never left my pokemon sleep team since i got him. he is perfection, and i actually named him after a shiny dedenne that i previously caught in scarlet. that very dedenne is my ribbon master, malasada. you see, before pokemon sleep even existed, i actually shiny hunted for a dedenne. i learnt about the new special mark that caught wild pokemon can have on your birthday and, in 2023, decided that i'd try to catch a shiny dedenne with one. like i said before, i was actually pretty neutral about dedenne during this time, so i truly have no idea why i chose it as my target... but i am sooo glad that i did. i caught a destiny marked dedenne and named him 'bijou' after the hamtaro character. upon Waking Up to the charms of dedenne, i renamed him to malasada so that he'd match one of my non-shiny dedennes (a little lad named poffin).

i know this is an absolutely wild saga, so if you're not following, i get it. the tl;dr here is that dedenne is one of my favourite pokemon of all time. i love, love, love dedenne. its design is perfect. its charms are unending. the fact that i caught a destiny mark one before i even entered my eternal dedenne phase is serendipity, and i absolutely adore malasada... to the point that i even commissioned a custom plush of him, which i went on to decorate with a handcrafted, real-life destiny mark!
