a treat from lumiose city!

as i write this post, the latest addition to the pokemon mainline series of games has been released in some locations. other locations - like mine! - are still at the very peak of the hype cycle for pokemon legends z-a. (insert 'dawn of the final day' screenshot from the legend of zelda: majora's mask here). largely thanks to my recent efforts to not rely on algorithms too much for entertainment and robust mutelist on the social media accounts that i do use, i've avoided virtually all spoilers up until this moment... (and i won't be posting any spoilers in this post, either... because i can't. because i don't know them. LOL.)
at any rate, avoiding all of the leaked information for this long makes me even more excited to play the game tomorrow after work. in fact, it has me so excited that i just had to do SOMETHING to celebrate the release of a game that i will surely pour hours and hours of free time into; a game that i'll enjoy and make awesome memories over with pals. i figured out exactly what i wanted to do and put that plan into action today, together with my mom and odile the totodile plush.
to celebrate our return to kalos, we'd bake the most delicious treat available in lumiose: the lumiouse galette.
as a disclaimer, this is absolutely not a recipe post, LMAO. we used this recipe by level1chef, but due to a lack of some of the ingredients being readily available to us, we... substituted quite a bit.

most notably, we didn't use almond paste and instead substituted it with marzipan, which led to some interesting textures (but it worked out fine in the end). we also didn't have access to frozen puff pastry sheets and instead used mini pie crusts. i was so sure that something would go wrong, but we were having fun, and, miraculously? the galettes ended up looking and tasting INCREDIBLE.
i took a few pictures during the process, and i wanted to share them for fun :)
here's the first of them!

this picture shows us making the marzipan filling for the galettes. odile is hard at work too, as you can see.

odile with the finished marzipan mixture! it was definitely a lot more gooey than the almond paste would've been, but it worked out fine in the long run. also, we made way too much. HAHA.

odile safeguarding the glaze and the egg for the egg wash.

we neatly separated the egg yolk with a handy tool. technology is incredible.

a new Mixture has joined the glaze.

the dough neatly sectioned off to form the bottom bases of 7 galettes.

three wip galettes. we placed a glob of the marzipan mixture in between the two sheets of circular dough pieces in order to get them like this. it reminded me of ravioli, haha!
we had enough leftover dough to make one more galette at the same size of the rest and two more tiny ones... and then one very long one that i pretended was a poffin.

my mom felt bad for the poffin not getting a design, so she put one on it, too. i'm responsible for the rest of the designs... i never drew a pattern on dough before; i was worried that i'd ruin them! it was both easier and harder than i thought it'd be, somehow...

...but, luckily, they ended up coming out perfect!!! they were absolutely delicious and definitely not as goofy as i expected them to be. i thought they'd literally explode in the oven, HAHA! instead, i think they're totally beautiful.

these galettes made for the perfect treat to celebrate my return to kalos for pokemon legends z-a. i'm really excited to eat them while playing plza for the next few days, hehe. i hope that everyone who picks up plza also has a wonderful time with it!!!
